Hello!!
Hello, I am Rob Burnett also know as, The Edible Gardener. I was born and raised in the fine County of Norfolk, England. I grew up farming and in the course of my education I was privileged to be chosen to spend a year as a student at The Royal Farms, Sandringham, Norfolk. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth had given the opportunity to four students a year to work on the Estate as part of their college education in Agriculture. That year was one of the most rewarding of my life.
I had planned to continue my career in farming upon leaving college, however due to the changes life throws at us I found my self being selected as a 'Bobby' and joined The Metropolitan Police in London. After a few years I left the force and the big city and went back to Agriculture and Horticulture . That change eventually brought me here to the USA.
After many years in Horticulture as a Designer/Construction Manager I tired of the corporate daily grind and decided to have a mid life crisis and become a Law Enforcement Officer again and became a Deputy Sheriff with Fauquier County, Virginia. That was my day job, when I got home I went straight to my vegetable garden to tend to my plants. Friends, neighbors and family members repeatedly stated "Rob, you should grow veggies as a business". Well, after chasing the 'bad guys' for many years I decided to take the advice of friends and family and started The Edible Gardener.
I have a real passion for growing veggies, there is something so fulfilling about preparing the ground for the upcoming grow season and watching as the seeds germinate and form into true plants and finally to harvest. After 40+ years, I still get a great feeling when I dig around in the soil with my hands searching for those very first golf ball sized New Potatoes and take them straight to the kitchen to cook them and savour that first mouthful.........Aaaahh! pure delight.
So here I am, teaching people the benefits of growing vegetables at your own home.
I started growing vegetables as a hobby and over the years have turned it into a true passion and now a business.
I do not profess to know everything about vegetable growing but what I do know is, the practices I have been using all these years work. Once you have experienced the taste of your first home grown Tomatoe, Potatoe, Lettuce or whatever you choose to grow you will never want to go to that 'big box' food store again!!
